Now, every family should have a family history, no? So. Our family was formed earlier this year when our (soon to be) fps mentor ms may tan asked if any of us would like to try out fps! And so our family was formed. Audrye, Huimin, Chris-Tin and Shuting.
Since march we have battled through problems, underlying problems, solutions, criteria, ranking and action plans, at the same time braving global warming, freedom of speech and most recently, nutrition.
Our unofficial meeting venue was always Chris-tin's house, and in the process, all of us gained weight with all the many many many marks and spencers cookies and ruffles we had! So much for learning about all the transfat.
It was in this intellectual environment that chemical bonding took place! In the end, we officially became the fps family, which can withstand high temperatures without any change in state. XD
A note about the name! reverse electrolysis was one of our action plans! and fps stands for Future Problem Solving!
Did you know? Chris-Tin killed the blog the first time because she didnt know that half the html for the blog was cut off, and she saved the template changes! so she had to do it all over again. ):

i love . MY JOB :D
it was during another one of those long breaks in between classes that we were all sitting in the canteen. somehow, we started talking about getting a job. somehow, we decided to go try our luck in plaza sing right after school that day. somehow, thai express @ plaza sing hired us on the spot and dispatched us to vivocity. and suddenly, we had jobs!
everything happened really fast. we were hired on monday, then we had our orientation on wednesday, when we received the very special thai express orange shirt haha and our cool black aprons, and by thursday we were already foodrunners at the opening of the vivocity outlet.
we work in the evenings for about 4 - 5h each time. but as far as i know, it never feels like such a long time. because vivocity and the thai express outlet are both so new, the crowds never cease to pour in right until the restaurant closes. we are constantly on the move, serving food, serving drinks, refilling drinks, pouring drinks, tending to customers' needs. (they don't let us take orders yet! but we all cant wait to memorise the menu and pick up the job :D) time really flies by when we are busy. i swear we walk a few km in the restaurant each evening.
but it is really fantastically fun! the job itself isnt too taxing on our minds, and there's a lot of flexibility in what we do. we also get to interact with a lot of people, and generally the feeling when we keep ourselves busy is extremely satisfying. i thought i would be really tired after work, especially since we sometimes go down after a long day in school, but surprisingly, apart from aching feet, im totally energetic by the time i get home. (although ahem i have the tendency to be extremely dazed in school the following day.) in a sense, i am really glad that we took up this job instead of some of the wep ones in school. i mean, being attached to a research institute and trailing a researcher around all day staring at testtubes until we're cockeyed definitely would be much more mundane than this. i cant imagine working full time though. by the time we get to thai express each evening, the crew looks quite worn out. they told us that on weekends, they're usually so busy that they dont even get any time to eat as long as the restaurant is still in operation. i guess 5h is about as long as i can manage to maintain a high level of enthusiasm and energy. but the great thing is, no matter how tired everyone is, a thank you and a smile from the customers, or an approving look from your fellow crewmates make it all worthwhile :D cheesy! but true, the joys of working in the service sector.
the crew ! is really nice as well. i mean yeah, they chid us now and then when we do something wrong, and some of them -ahem are self-proclaimed fierce devils when they're working, but they're all really nice to us. so far it's been fun working with them, especially yesterday when they sent in the paragon and ps people to help us out. there's this guy. who is in charge of section 1. he's totally professional gosh whenever i see him, he's either rushing around to tend to the customers' needs or talking in this really polite and warm way to the customers. it's quite amazing i kept staring at him xD oh fine he has really nice hair too. haha do you want to hear about the other million cute people i've spotted eating in the restaurant as well? i suppose not right. then again there's alex, big joker who keeps getting in my way and calls jingli the doorman. ahh i think they'll be gone by today but nevermind. crew @ vivocity is DA real cool. i ahem sort of cant remember all their names yet but i will, with time :D
accidents? what accidents? huimin jingli and i are totally naturals. haha no la. the stupid restaurant floor is terribly slippery for some reason. for one, nobody can walk properly, especially near the kitchen. apparently one group of customers noticed and they even asked jingli about it xD but that's not good at all, especially since there's food coming out the kitchen all the time. AND I TOTALLY FELL. it's the embarrassment of my life i dont even know what exactly happened. i was happily carrying out this jug of water and then somehow i slipped! and then i lost my balance! and then i ended up on my butt! oh but i was really zai okay i took great care not to spill the water even when i was falling so the jug was still intact in my hands and the floor wasnt very wet except for a few ice cubes that flew out :D i think the customers were quite alarmed haha and silently wishing that i would never carry their food orders. our dear razali spent the next half an hour laughing at me though =\ actually i think the 3 of us amuse everyone. but that's a good thing right, we bring LIFE to the place :D
oh i must say. if you ever go to thai express, PLEASE DONT ORDER ANYTHING BUT DRY ITEMS. the soups burn my fingers every single time i go down. and that's not to mention all the disgusting times when i accidentally dip my thumb into the soup while serving it -.- its difficult okay! and BE A NICE CUSTOMER like the nice lady who commented that my specs are nice :D the food looks good :D it's quite funny i've never eaten in thai express before even though i've served some of the more popular dishes dozens of times over. haha some day the 3 of us must go and eat in paragon and ps thai express and visit our friends :D
haha friend, now you know how i found my Joy after an evening of work.
